  • David Larwill has played a pivotal role in Australian culture throughout the 1980's and 90's. His imagery has broad appeal with markets expanding offshore. Larwill in recent times has begun to develop a print career of note, complementing his painting.
  • Larwill is showing in London towards the end of 2005.
  • $100 USD invested in 2000 in a work of David Larwill had an average value of $228 USD in  June 2005.
  • Larwill's top price at auction is $51,700- Deutscher-Menzies 2002 (The estimate was $28-35K).
  • A relatively young artist to have a track record with a top price and excellent consistency in backup in secondary sales speaks volumes.
  • “Larwill has been undervalued at auction for many years. The recent high prices to some extent corrects this and brings him into line with other leading contemporary artists such as Maguire and Moffat”   - Mark Fraser, Sotheby’s.
  • "Larwill over the next 5 – 10 years will rise dramatically…There is a good book on him; he is collected by older collectors who already have sound collections of the Moderns (Blackman, Boyd, Tucker etc) as well as the younger collectors who are only starting to put collections together now. He seems to me to be a very good sound artist to invest in or just to enjoy”  - David Cook, Christies.
  • "Artists with room to move in the market:...David Larwill.”   - Michael Reid, The Daily Telegraph, July 2004.

  • “Prices for Tim Storrier’s works have shot away to levels more than three times those of the 1989 peak and five times those of 1996. The previous record of $93, 250 was easily beaten when “Skyway” made $123,750 (est $50-70,000) at Sotheby’s in 2002, before that was eclipsed by “The Wave and Garland” at $221, 500 at Sotheby’s in November 2002.(auction record). There were five paintings in 2004 which exceeded $100,000 at auction” Roger Dedman. Australian Art Market Movements Handbook 2005 issue .
  • Of those works sold in 2005, “The Evening Fire (nine mile plain)” offered at Sotheby’s November 28 sale smashed the estimate of $90-120,000.00 achieving an impressive $203,000.00

  • 100 USD invested in 1997 in a work of Storrier had an average value of 402 USD in December 2005 – Source: Artprice.com

  • Tim Storrier is now firmly established within the top 2 living Australian artists.

  • Storrier’s best known and most collectable work features representations of burning ropes, and burning logs with red hot cinders. Whilst these works are large in scale and most suitable for corporate display, smaller intimate print works are ideal for the domestic market and due their rarity, are a solid investment at current market prices.

  • The newly released collagraph, “Boy's own” (working title) includes all the benchmark Storrier features. Strong in subject matter, utilizing 7 plates and with 50 colours applied by master print maker Paul Smith, this rare collagraph is available in an edition of 70 numbered prints only.

    • Jeffrey Makin is one of Australia’s most influential artists. As a painter, printmaker and academic, he has a vision of the landscape that one cannot simply classify. His extraordinary understanding of the language and the history of image making combine in his work to convey a subtleness of light and structure of the landscape.
    • Makin is an artist at the height of his skills, who in the same breath successfully delves into the drama of the sublime whilst contemplating a contemporary pastoral arcadia. His long time collaborator, John Olsen in the book Australia Felix: The Landscape of Jeffrey Makin (published by Macmillan Press) describes the artist; “You are rare, very rare the way that you have given yourself to landscape and offhand, I know of no other Australian artist that has done so with such singular passion.”
    • Makin's highest commission price to date is $100,000.00 for a piece produced for the Hilton Hotel, Brisbane. Whilst his auction record stands at $30,000.00. Makin is well placed in his career, with a sellout solo exhibition at Barrack Gallery in 2005. This has a significant bearing on the demand for his work and therefore the expectation that prices will rise in 2006.

Portfolio Construction

This premium portfolio offers collectors and investors the opportunity to be involved with four of Australia’s most eagerly collected artists; David Larwill, Jason Benjamin, Jeff Makin and Tim Storrier.  All current and past indicators suggest the mid to long term capital appreciation potential for artworks by each of these artists is outstanding.

David Larwill, one of the strongest performing mid-career artists in Australia in the last five years has developed a strong following in both corporate and private collections throughout Australia. The Dog is a stunning example of the striking imagery and expressionistic style that his work is famous for.

Jason Benjamin whose work is in high demand across the country, produces some of the finest and most beautifully constructed print works since Brett Whiteley. This image is no exception and illustrates the technical brilliance and aesthetic sensibility of his finest works.

Jeff Makin has reached new levels of critical acclaim and primary art market success in recent years with prices for his major paintings demanding around $40,000 apiece.  The broad appeal of his subject matter and technique combined with his acclaimed reputation make these works very attractive for corporate rental.  This etching is part of the collection of editioned works developed from Makin's sell-out exhibition The Tasman Series held by Art Equity last year.

Tim Storrier has enjoyed phenomenal success unparalleled by any other living Australian artist of his generation.  A seriously "blue chip" investment, works by this artist are incredibly hot property.

Due to the proven demand for the artists included in this portfolio, the rental potential for this collection is excellent.  This allows us to offer investors the high annual return of 8% over a 2 year term.
