The Captive Princess - Katy Woodroffe

This exhibition is a MUST for print students and practitioners alike, and once you have been seduced by the sheer eloquence of Woodroffe's technique, you can marvel at the beautiful imagery the artist has presented.

Woodroffe's images are seemingly repetitive, but when you understand what has motivated her, things fall into place.

Beguiled by the almost hypnotic quality of Islamic pattern art, the artist has created images that subtly echo the aura of a time when places like tha Alhambra, a Moorish castle in Spain, enjoyed the presence of a harem.

It remains a beautiful edifice to visit, only the haunting designs still biding their time, seducing artists and dreamers who create works of great beauty in turn, to celebrate the demise of an intriguiing culture.  Woodroffe has brought the dream with her to share with us.
