Bikes for Bush Foundation launches at Art Equity
Art Equity hosted the launch of Bikes for Bush Foundation on Tuesday night in our Sydney gallery. The intiative, co-founded by Pegasus Racing will raise funds to supply BMX bikes for children in remote Indigenous communities.
Wentja Napaltjarri sang and danced to the bike she had meticulously painted, a rare priviledge for guests and media in who attended.
Her bike, along with racing bikes painted by other leading Indigenous artists including Nyurapayia Nampitjinpa and Tommy Watson will be auctioned at a gala dinner during the International Cycling Championships in Victoria in October.

ALP rejects Cooper recommendations to ban artworks from SMSFs
We are pleased to announce that the decision by the
Labor Party on Friday 30th July means all three
major political parties in Australia have reached a consensus
position to rule out the Cooper Report proposals to ban artworks
from SMSFs.
This is an excellent outcome for both the Australian art
market and investors in fine art.

Gittoes covers Artist Profile
George Gittoes is the cover feature of
the latest Artist Profile magazine, (edition 12).
George Gittoes on the front line is a nine page
feature interview by John McDonald. Honest and
insightful, McDonald delves into the psyche of a man who has
seen more death and destruction over the last 40 years
than one could dare imagine. Images of recent paintings
and movie stills from his latest documentary, The Miscreants of
Taliwood feature alongside photographs of the artist by
Michael Hagedorn.
George Gittoes is making huges waves in the seemingly unpenetrable
US market, attracting the eyes and ears of top dealers, journalists

A Gittoes encounter
Art Equity hosted a 'pop-up' artist in-residence day to the delight of many guests of the gallery and staff last week. It was to celebrate the brief return to Australia of internationally-renowned artist George Gittoes.
Over the past 18 months Gittoes has based himself in Berlin and New York where he has made strong inroads into the consciousness of the curatorial art world, particularly in the USA where his edgy painting and film making are being marked as the most relevant visual commentary of this period of American and world history. In particular, his vision of the battlegrounds of the Middle East and Afghanistan has no peer, recording not only the obvious tragedy, but also the beauty and hope that survives in the war zone.
Watch this short video to hear from the man - Gittoes, never one to shrink from a challenge, is now back to Afghanistan.
From all of us at Art Equity, we wish him a safe and successful journey.

Journey to the Cleland Hills
On one of his numerous trips to the Western Desert in recent weeks, Ralph Hobbs took seven senior Mt Liebig residents to the remote Cleland Hills.
Among the group was the highly celebrated Watiyawanu Artist, Wentja Napaltjarri. Between hunting for honeyants, witchety grubs and pituri (bush tobacco) Wentja spent time on one of the masterpieces for her upcoming solo show aptly titled WENTJA at Art Equity. Although not her traditional land, the spirit of country was evident with Wentja breaking into song as she painted next to her campfire.
Wentja Napaltjarri's latest works will be exhibited in a solo show titled WENTJA at Art Equity from August 26th - September 10th, 2010.
Please join Wentja and the Art Equity team for opening drinks from 6-8pm on Thursday 26th August at Art Equity.
