Geoff Dyer

Born 1947. Lives and works in Hobart, Tasmania.

Geoff Dyer is regarded as one of contemporary Australian painting’s most inspired landscape artists.

Geoff Dyer is regarded as one of contemporary Australian painting's most inspired landscape artists.  After graduating from art school in the late 1960s, he worked as an art educator then rapidly established a vibrant painting career.

A multiple finalist in the prestigious Wynne and Archibald prizes (he won the Archibald in 2003), Dyer has consistently presented outstanding bodies of work drawn from the Tasmanian landscape.

Markedly, the environment has been a significant influence on Dyer's career, from the life source of his Derwent River series to his iconic imagery of regenerative bushfire, to the sea and river scapes of Coast to Coast.  Producing not just arresting imagery and captivating landscape, each canvas is invested with immediacy, familiarity and inquiry.  In short, he gives to us a unique and personal vision of his home, which is the source of his inspiration.

Dyer is represented in many major collections, both in Australia and overseas.
